As the company continued to grow and refine its products, the need for a new name representing the brand identity and vision was apparent. In 1947, the company was officially renamed Canon Camera Co., Inc. This marked the beginning of a new era, as Canon set out to make a name for itself in photography.

Innovations and Expansions: The Beginning

In 1959, Canon introduced the Canonflex, its first single-lens reflex (SLR) camera, which marked a significant milestone for the company, as SLR cameras were quickly becoming the preferred choice of photographers for their versatility and ease of use.

In 1961, Canon released the Canonet, a high-quality rangefinder camera that was both budget and user-friendly. The camera gained popularity among amateur and professional photographers thanks to its exceptional image quality, ease of use, and affordability.

In 1965, Canon introduced Canon Pellix, a groundbreaking innovation. This revolutionary camera featured a fixed, semi-transparent mirror, allowing light to reach the film and viewfinder simultaneously.

Canon continued to release better products between the 1970s and the early 1980s. Notable camera innovations included the Canon F-1, Canon AE-1, and the Canon T series of the early 1980s.

In 1987, Canon unveiled the EOS (Electro-Optical System), and the EOS 650 was released. The EOS system represented a significant technological breakthrough, offering a fully electronic lens mount and seamless communication between the camera and lens.

In 1989, Canon introduced Canon EOS-1, which laid the foundation for future generations of professional Canon cameras and further cemented the EOS system.

The 2000s marked another significant milestone for Canon. The company entered digital SLR cameras with the launch of the Canon EOS D30 in 2000.  Mirrorless Cameras and Technological Advancements (2010S-PRESENT)
